Stippling is the art process of drawing that uses numerous small dots to create a desired image. Stippling art is done with a fine point pen. The process is very similar to another art technique called pointillism. The difference between the two styles lies within the medium that is used. Stippling art is typically done with pen and ink, while pointillism art is made with paint and brush.

Using a similar process of pointillism, the artist uses a series of dots to create a desired image, but the artist uses paint and brush. This painting technique was developed by Georges Seurat and Paul Signac in the 1880s. It was initially created as a response to the more popular style of Impressionism. The technique remained popular and was later used by several famous artists such as Van Gogh and Picasso.
